The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
