Tehran States It May Rejoin US Atomic Talks if Treated with 'Respect' and 'Respect'

Tehran is prepared to resume atomic talks with the United States on condition that it is approached with "dignity" and "honor", Iran's top diplomat has declared.

Abbas Araghchi said only diplomacy worked, and revealed new appeals had been made by intermediaries to resume negotiations with the Trump administration. He claimed Iran had zero undeclared nuclear sites, and Tehran had not yet reached a point to authorize the UN nuclear inspectorate to visit struck enrichment centers for safety concerns.

Navigating a Complex Route

Araghchi is navigating a difficult path since Iran does not want appear to be acting from a position of disadvantage, and he consistently maintained that Iran had emerged more powerful defensively and psychologically from the coordinated strike on its atomic facilities in June.

He was addressing at a strategic meeting in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "an absolute privilege to enrich uranium within its borders that it will never give up" – the primary cause of the stalemate in the prior discussions.

Previous Talks Suddenly Concluded

The previous five rounds of discussions between the US and Iran were concluded unexpectedly and hostile end on 12 June when Israel, with American backing, struck Iran's enrichment centers in a 12-day war that concluded with the American leader declaring the facilities had been destroyed. Subsequently, Western states exercised their right to reinstate international penalties, but Iran maintains they have not had a major impact.

Perfect Agreement Suggested

Iran's diplomats claimed they felt they had achieved a "ideal resolution" to the enrichment issue in earlier negotiations, when it was settled an domestic cooperative with American involvement could enrich uranium. The two nations would have been able to declare success since home-based processing would have persisted and the US could be certain that Iran's atomic project was exclusively peaceful.

It had not been settled in the talks that US nuclear scientists could operate on Iranian soil, but that was a reasonable assumption of the cooperative offer. Officials asserted on multiple occasions they had reached agreement with Washington's diplomat Steve Witkoff only for the agreement to collapse due to "opponents in the US".

Existing Position

Iran's diplomats declared the partnership proposal was now no longer available, but it seems highly likely the proposal could be revived in some form if discussions resume.

The American leader last week said he had been receiving messages that Iran wanted to reopen negotiations, but confidentially Iranian officials state they are not yet getting clear proposals from the United States either straightforwardly or from key regional mediators, such as the Qatari government, Egypt, the Omani authorities and Saudi Arabia. The Iranian foreign ministry has been criticized of non-responsiveness in the wake of Washington's unmediated tactics, but Tehran states dialogue is not part of a spectacle.

Diplomatic Stance

In his speech to the conference, intended to paint the US as a dominant force that misuses the concept of global regulations, the foreign minister said the 12-day war revealed the clash could not be ended by combat operations. He stated the assaults began with a Washington's ultimatum for an total Iran submission and concluded with an unconditional call for a halt to hostilities.

Iran is certain the first strikes by Israel were mounted with full US knowledge and coordination, making trust challenging to reestablish.

Negotiations Stays the Primary Answer

Araghchi declared: "It was not Iran that had fled negotiations; it was America and the Western nations that had consistently sought to dictate their desires during the discussions.
